The RNC screams "D'Oh!"

I actually learned something from Chris Matthews today.  That doesn't happen too often; "Tweety" is someone I really don't respect and I don't watch too often.  But I had his show on today in the kitchen while I was making dinner.  It makes good background noise, I guess.  And Matthews said this:

"Is anyone planning over at the RNC?  McCain's speech, the final night of the convention, happens on NFL kickoff weekend!  Is anyone going to be watching?"

Can you believe this?  Everyone knew when Kickoff Weekend would happen:  it's always on the Thursday before the start of the season, the first week of September.  The League spends a ton of money on a concert and extended pre-game show.  This year, the New York Giants will host the Washington Redskins.  So, GOP, are you just not trying on the East Coast this year?

If I'm "Joe Average" American, sitting at home on Sept. 4th, I've got a lot of choices for entertainment that night.  One is going to be "Grampy" John S. McCain III, stumbling through a teleprompter speech.  The other will be the first NFL game of the season.  HHHmmmmm.....I wonder which one will get "more eyes"?

Of course, this may be a Republican strategy:  they know McCain is terrible at set speeches, so fewer people seeing his speaking disaster might be in his best interest.

I know which one I'll be watching:  I'm a NFL junkie.  I'd like some entertainment, not to be put to sleep.

Re: The RNC screams "D'Oh!" (2.00 / 4)

They planned it deliberately.  They know what a downer McCain's speech is going to be.  It's like those Friday afternoon doc dumps!

Could be worse. Any ideas on the amount of time Obama has purchased during the game?

Man, this is too good.  Unless it's some sort of Rovian plot...

High-larious (2.00 / 1)

Oh, you Republicans.  Such lovable scamps.  Will you ever win?

Don't answer that.

LOL! These clowns can't get out of their own way.

Maybe they will feature the new brides/girlfriends of Charlie Crist and Lindsey Graham on "No, we ain't gay, no way-look at our gal-pals" Larry Craig Tuesday night!

Followed by a back to back double play of Joe Liberman and Zell Miller doing the Demo-rat spitting and ranting two-step!

That's entertainment!

Ouch. I just feel sorry for them. To think we were concerned because it was nearly overlapping Olympic coverage. This isn't deliberate by any stretch of the imagination. The candidate that comes out the hardest from the convention is the one that will get a huge boost in the polls. Something like this could prevent that from happening.

Coach, I think it is a republican strategy- John McCain giving a speech is about as inspiring as bucket of wet cement.
They might lose votes if too many people watch!
Hahaha, good catch!

Don't worry, they're thought this one through!  Instead of the usual backdrop of sloganeering graphics or rainbow-colored Republicans (i.e. white & beige,) there will be a wall of buxom cheerleaders doing their best to rouse the crowds & distract from the crotchety man behind the mic.

Re: The RNC screams "D'Oh!" (2.00 / 2)

I wouldn't miss it. Drinking game: "Fwends" - a shot. "Change" - spin around twice and a shot. "9/11" - 2 shots and 10 jumping jacks.

"Petraous" 2 shots and one free puke pass.

I propose this: (2.00 / 2)

Get a group of friends together.  Randomly assign each person present one of the following words/phrases:

"Vietnam"
"My friends"
"The troops"
"Change"
"Terrorists"
"Iraq"
"Iran"
"Obama"
"Commander-in-chief"
"Oil"

Every time McCain uses one of those words/phrases, the person assigned to that word/phrase gets to take a shot.  Whoever is still conscious at the end of the speech gets a prize!

I assure you, a grand time will be had by all.

Wouldn't it be nice if there were no rhetorical questions?

Is the game on network tv or cable? (none / 0)

Big difference in number of viewers switching channels if say the game is say on NBC instead of ESPN.

Re: The RNC screams "D'Oh!" (none / 0)

Well, considering that only 2% of the population actually has NFL network, I don't think they are too worried!

I don't like it when folks compare me to Tweety ....
